Community Involvement

back to wellness centre strives to contribute back to the local and global community as part of its philosophy. As a family owned and operated centre, principals Dr. Rehana and Dr. Rozina participate in activities and sponsor organizations whose core value is to promote long term sustainability and prevention.

Women's Health Research Institute (WHRI)
Women's Hospital is best known for their quality care for pregnant women and specializes in high risk pregnancies among other serious ailments that affect women all over the province of British Columbia.

The WHRI was founded in March 2005 and is "devoted solely to improving the health and health care of girls and women, to serve as a catalyst for research in women's health and to support an expanding national network of women's health researchers, policy makers and healthcare providers."

The team at back to wellness centre knows many patients, friends, and family members who have received exceptional care from Women's Hospital and believe it is important to support their research endeavors to better the health of their patients.

back to wellness centre is a proud sponsor of their fundraising initiative, the Ismaili Walk for Women in September 2009 at Stanley Park. www.whri.org

The Heart & Stroke Foundation
To help the foundation raise money for heart disease and stroke research, the back to wellness centre joined their campaign, Paint the Town Red program. For the month of February our centre sold hearts to our patients who had their name on it and then they were displayed on our walls. By the end of it we had red walls and we would like to thank our patients for donating so generously! Funds raised helps researchers have a greater understanding of the root cause of heart disease and stroke – a goal we believe in. www.heartandstroke.ca

World Partnership Walk
This event which started in Vancouver in 1985 now occurs in nine cities across Canada on the last Sunday of May every year. It is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) and its goal is to raise awareness and funds about global poverty. Its philosophy is to provide sustainable, holistic solutions to poor communities. Special attention is paid to the programs' impact on the environment and on women. The back to wellness centre participates with a corporate team and generous donations from their patients.

To date AKFC has raised more than $27 million dollars with every penny going to the programs – donations are not used in administrative costs. Join us each year at Stanley Park on the last Sunday in May! www.worldpartnershipwalk.com
